For a very long time, there has been a great discussion regarding how the divine masculine has gotten out of balance, and therefore the divine feminine needs to be raised up and grow stronger in order to balance out the masculine. It is said that the current state of the world and our environment is due to the masculine energies running amok due to constant “taking, taking, taking” instead of realizing there is a sacred balance of energies on the earth. A shift is upon us and what I know is that it feels very old and outdated to continue to talk about bringing the feminine and masculine in balance….it is as if to speak about this is completely missing the point.
That idea of a dichotomy of energies is gone. There is now a spherical spectrum of energies. Just as the idea of gender has been turned into a continuum, so is the idea of masculine and feminine energy. Within what would be considered masculine energy is feminine and vice versa; however, there is so much more than this binary field. It is as if being able to see clearly the masculine and feminine energy in ourselves and our world was a space we needed to work through in our collective consciousness, but now there is more that our consciousness is ready to understand.
What is here for us now is the consciousness of nature. This is the energy which is emerging in the collective consciousness. To be clear, for as long as the earth has been in existence, this energy has been present. By no means is this ‘new’. It is more that where we are headed in the collective is to actually assimilate the earth energy and the energy of nature in our broader consciousness. There are very real signs that this shift is upon us. The tumultuous experiences of weather on the earth at this time is one sign. The other sign is the one that has been shown to us via the recent pandemic; as we have had to social distance, it has driven us all outside. It has been poetic that the place that has been ‘safe’ during these times is the solid ground of the earth.
The consciousness of nature sounds like a buzzword, but think about the ways we are experiencing this consciousness currently. Nature has never shown her energies stronger than recently and can be viscerally seen when there is a hurricane or a tornado. It can be felt in the cold temperatures of dramatic snowfall and ice. It can be witnessed in record setting rainfall and unprecedented wildfires. But it goes even deeper than that. There is absolutely a feeling that occurs in our bodies when standing upon a mountain or even a hill. There is an experience with our breath when we are among the trees in a forest. The wind, whether the strongest gust or the sweetest breeze, holds energy that is felt even in our minds. When a person drops into their kinesthetic energy and senses any kind of nature, at some point the feeling of grace, beauty and joy will be reached. The natural state— or the state of nature— is actually grace, beauty and joy. There is no masculine or feminine version of those energies. They just simply are. They are a state of being that is held in all of nature no matter what its form.
I have had the most amazing, unexpected experience of the consciousness of nature in what I thought was going to be an ordinary moment. I took a walk from my office to the park nearby. This park has a pond where there are ducks and a fountain, but on this particular day it also had the biggest, most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. As I made my walking loop around the water, I was so drawn to these flowers and their energy I wanted to wade through the mud to get even closer to them. They swayed with the breeze and had enormous lush, white petals. Those flowers imparted their deeply sensual energy to me and it has stuck with me ever since.
The more you put yourself in any kind of nature, the more this practice of “feeling” will grow. These feelings are available to us whether we are standing on a mountain or not. Being quiet is the key ingredient to the practice. The presence of silence and the willingness to be receptive are required. Although this practice goes beyond visualization, for some, seeing these images in nature will be the vehicle. This can be done anywhere however; there is no need to make a big trek. Literally standing on the earth or in the sand is all that is needed, or even if you have plants by a window, you can begin your practice— but being outside is best. As you start to listen and feel, you will attune to the energy and it will remain an imprint within you to access again and again.
An opening is upon us; one that invites us into a wellspring of grace. All of nature conspires to help us, if we only tune in and are willing to feel and experience the natural world in a way we have not been doing in recent history. Let us leave behind our preoccupation with masculine and feminine and instead step outside and onto the earth. Be silent. Listen with our whole being. Grace. Beauty. Joy.
